When to choose PNG over JPG

PNG is a lossless format — every pixel is stored exactly as captured, with no compression artefacts. That makes it the right choice whenever image quality matters more than file size: editing workflows, screenshots, graphics with text, or images you plan to crop and re-save multiple times.

PNG also supports full transparency (alpha channel), which JPG cannot. If your HEIC photos contain transparent areas — common in app screenshots or certain edited photos — only PNG will preserve them faithfully.

The trade-off is file size: PNG files are larger than JPG. For photos you're publishing online or sharing where file size matters, HEIC to JPG will produce a more compact result with no visible quality difference at typical viewing sizes.

Frequently asked

Does HEIC to PNG preserve transparency?

Yes. PNG supports an alpha channel and this tool carries it through from the HEIC source. If the original contains transparent areas, the PNG output will faithfully reproduce them.

Is PNG or JPG better for iPhone photos?

It depends. PNG is lossless — ideal for screenshots, graphics, or images you'll edit further. JPG uses lossy compression and produces smaller files, better for sharing or web publishing where file size matters more than pixel-perfect accuracy.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Every HEIC is read and converted by your own browser. Nothing is sent to a server — in fact, the tool keeps working even with your Wi-Fi switched off.

Does converting HEIC to PNG lose quality?

No. PNG is a lossless format — every pixel is preserved exactly. The PNG files will typically be larger than the original HEIC because HEIC uses more aggressive compression, but there is no quality degradation.

Can I convert multiple HEIC files to PNG at once?

Yes. Drop up to 10 HEIC files at once and they'll all convert in one go. When done, download them individually or as a single zip file.
